Case Study, Client Result

A two page website to #1 in twelve towns. No ads, no backlinks.

Thirty years on the tools. All his work came from word of mouth. If you searched Google for a scaffolder, you would not find him. Now he is top of the list for 15 different searches, and it was not us who checked it.

About this one: this is a Construction Media client who has asked to stay unnamed. The ranking figures come from an independent BrightLocal report dated 17 May 2026, not from us. The enquiry and search figures come from their own Google Business Profile insights for March to May 2026.

The Starting Point

Thirty years of work, invisible on Google

He had a two page website. No backlinks pointing at it, nothing spent on advertising, and no presence in the map pack that decides who gets rung when somebody needs scaffold up by Friday.

None of that reflected the business. Thirty years in the trade, work coming almost entirely through recommendation. The problem was simply that anybody who had not already heard of him had no way of finding him. Meanwhile firms with a fraction of the experience were sitting at the top of the search results.

The competitors above him were not better scaffolders. Some of them held more than 2,500 backlinks. He held none.

One more thing, and it catches a lot of lads out. Search your own trade on your own phone, stood in your own yard, and Google will often put you near the top just because you are there. Drive five miles and you have gone. That is why we had this checked from all over Stockport instead of standing in his car park with a phone.

Independently Tracked
15 at #1
We paid an outside company to check 18 different searches. He came up first on 15 of them and second on the other 3. Not one search put him lower than second.
BrightLocal, May 2026
Towns Covered
12
He comes up first in Hazel Grove, Bramhall, Marple, Bredbury, Edgeley, Romiley, Davenport, Offerton, Heaviley and Heaton Moor. Second in Cheadle and Heaton Chapel. That is 12 towns, not just his own.
BrightLocal, May 2026
Commercial And Domestic
Both
He is first whether somebody types "commercial scaffolding Stockport" or "domestic scaffolding Stockport". Also first for "scaffolding company", "scaffolding hire" and plain "scaffolding Stockport". Both sides of the work, not one lucky search.
BrightLocal, May 2026
Search Appearances
6,863
His business came up on people’s screens 6,863 times in three months. Three months before that, hardly anyone saw him at all.
Google Business Profile
Enquiries A Month
38
About 28 phone calls a month straight off Google, plus 10 more through his website. He started with none. These are not leads bought off a website and sold to four firms at once. It is his own phone ringing.
Google Business Profile and client
Directions Requested
36
36 people a month tap for directions to his yard. That is somebody deciding he is worth a look before they even ring.

Not a penny on Google Ads, Checkatrade or MyBuilder. Nothing was bought, so nothing stops when you stop paying for it.

Figures cover March to May 2026 and reflect that period. Search results move, and any figure like this is a snapshot rather than a promise.

See It Yourself

Ten reviews. Still top of the list.

This is a real Google search for "commercial scaffolding Stockport". We have blurred our client's name, address and number because they would rather not be named. Everything else is exactly as Google shows it, including the blue tick saying we manage that profile.

A Google search for commercial scaffolding Stockport. The top result is a Construction Media client with a 5.0 rating from 10 reviews and a badge confirming we manage the profile, with their name blurred. Below them sit competitors with 1, 10, 29 and 15 reviews.

Look at the review counts. A firm with 29 reviews is sitting fourth. Further down the same list there is one with 42. Our client is top with ten.

Every scaffolder gets told the same thing: you just need more reviews. It is not true. Reviews help you win the job once somebody is looking at you, but they are not what decides who Google shows in the first place. If reviews decided it, the firm with 42 would be top and our client would be nowhere.

What actually decides it is activity. Reviews coming in steadily rather than in one lump. Posts going up. Photos added. Hours and categories kept right. A website behind it saying the same thing. Every one of those is small on its own. Added together they are what tells Google this is a real firm that is still going, and that is what puts you above a company sitting on 42 reviews and doing nothing.

It is also the honest reason this is a monthly job rather than a one off. You cannot set that up once and walk away. The activity is the work.

Where He Shows Up

Same firm, twelve towns

This is the bit most lads never see. Where you come up on Google changes depending on where the person searching is stood. Here is where he lands across Stockport.

What We Built

Why it worked, and worked quickly

Profile
Google Business Profile, Properly Set Up
Claimed, categorised, described and posted to. For a scaffolder the map pack is where the work is, and most profiles are left half finished.
Pages
A Page Per Town, A Page Per Service
Two pages became a site that answers the searches people actually type, across the towns he genuinely covers.
Structure
Answer-First, Server-Rendered
Content in the raw HTML so Google and AI crawlers read it on the first visit, with clear answers and structured data.
Proof
Reviews Working For Him
Thirty years of goodwill turned into visible, recent reviews, the thing that decides who gets rung out of the top three.

No backlink buying, no ad budget, no directory subscriptions. The competitors with thousands of backlinks were beaten by a business that simply became the most obviously relevant answer to a local search.

We take one scaffolder per 30 mile radius

If you are the best in your area and Google does not know it, that is a fixable problem. We install the same system for one company per trade, per area, so we are never working for you and your rival at once.
